Are You Cooking The Feast Tomorrow?

Then here are some tricks that have been told and verified this morning by me!

For the Grandma’s Stuffing, the loaf of bread will need to be toasted and torn up to dry overnight.  The cornbread will also need to be made and crumbled.  I personally put it in the oven with a drying cycle since my oven does that, and I have a Stormy who loves bread.  You can also precut up the veggies so that in the morning you can just worry about makign the stuffign and stuffing the turkey.

You can make the Sweet Potato Casserole the night before and just reheat the following day if your oven space is limited.  It is so delish that no one will notice.

I am cooking 2 dozen of my 3 dozen rolls.  The last dozen will be tomorrow, but the rest will be reheated and served then.  I have a group taht will devour those first rolls, but the second round wouldn’t go until they are cold anyways.  No loss.

The Nancy’s Cheese Ball is best made the day before, so I will be making that.

For the Green Bean Casserole, well we have found a couple of ways to do that one.  One, if you have a rotisserie machine going, put your casserole dish on top and it will cook it. (true Story!).  Two) Make it in the crock pot.  You are only melding the flavours together, everything is already cooked.  Three) I accidently put mine over the vent from the oven one year and it cooked it.  Nice and bubbly.

Potatoes for the Mashed Potatoes (and the Sweet Potato Casserole if you don’t bake it the night before) can be done 8-12 hours before.  As long as you refridgerate and cover them in water.  (Cooking Light had that tip).

Make sure your Turkey is thawed!  If Tom is not ready, put him in a sink of water overnight and he will be less crunchy when you need him.

And some tips for tomorrow, Sitting the turkey out to ‘set’ actually does work.  I pull the turkey out, and then load everything else up to finish.  He gets cooled for awhile, then when I am ready to make the gravy (aka when I say I am getting ready) they get carving and I finish up things.  Best thing is to get help, since to get it out on the table takes multiple hands.  Mashed Potatoes and Gravy need to be the last things done since both cool quickly.

I hope this helps you out.  There are tons of sites out there helping out people with their Turkey day.

Thanksgiving Recipes!

new-recipes-added-1

Thanksgiving is often a time of eating… and eating!

For those of us that are cooks, we spend a lot of time in the kitchen making food.  One of the sad things I noticed a few years ago, is that the websites for food recipes get lagging.  And then, last year at Thanksgiving, my mom accidently threw away the turkey instructions.  Luckily, I was patient.  I ended up getting Butterball’s instructions after waiting for a half an hour.

Yes, half an hour to load a page that tonight took not even a full second.

So, when I dreamed up this idea of a food blog, I not only wanted to share recipes, as well as my family’s, but I also wanted a place that my ladies could store their most used recipes and not worry if half the United States was trying to use the Kraft site when they wanted to.

I went through my menu for Thanksgiving and I am presenting the recipe’s that I will be coming here to use.

And yes, I added the Butterball’s instructions in case the unthinkable happens.

Again.

Also, I did my first recipe off the top of my head, the Pan Gravy.  If you have any input to help me improve for next time, let me know.

Here is the Recipe’s (At the end I will also put the shopping list for if you do the same menu.  I didn’t add the simple things like Cranberry sauce, corn and so on.) :

Also, I use this app for shopping: OurGroceries.  If you click on the word, it will take you to the site.  You can add things to the site, and it will share it to your phone.  I love it especially since I took the time to put all the items in the same categories as the store I shop at all the time.  It may have taken me a little bit of time at the beginning, but it is quick and easy now.  Also, you can share the list with others, and if they pick it up and mark it off the list, it will come off yours.  Perfect if you are team shopping, or if you add things as you run out, and your significant other, or roomate picks them up later.

I am off to relax, I need to be elsewhere tomorrow morning, but I am planning on shopping as soon as possible tomorrow to avoid the rushes!

Working on the site…

I am going to be working on a special Thanksgiving Edition for tonight.

I need to make my grocery list, (using the Our Groceries App) And figured I will let you guys see what I am going to make, as well as the list for the day.

So far, I will be getting the Directions for Turkey from Butterball, where my husband and I learned to make a turkey that has not failed us in being awesome.  I am also going to be grabbing some well known other recipes.  Why?  Because I am not kidding you, the sites seemed to be overwhelmed on that day and take forever to load.

My menu will be published here, but the basics are: Turkey, Stuffing, Green Bean Casserole, Sweet Potato Casserole (an amazing recipe that I need to make 3-4 times the amount to make sure there are some left for me, and it reheats awesomely!) Homemade Gravy, Pumpkin Pie and a Cheese Ball.

If you can think of something before I publish the list of recipes, let me know and I will get it on the menu for you.  We probably have a lot of the recipes, just I haven’t had as much time online to work on them!

See you guys soon!

More Recipes Added!

new-recipes-added-1

Sorry, I was feeling unwell last week, but I caught up today and moved past to the 5th page.  I will try to get more done this week for you to be ready for Thanksgiving.

New items added: We have a Holiday section on the bottom of the menu screen.  You can tap any of the holidays we have down there or hit the category of Holidays to see all recipes that we think that would appropriate to that holiday.  If you see any that should be added, please drop us a line.  It will only be on the bottom menu for you to use.

This has been a busy one, I am in the middle of the cookies.  Hopefully, the next entries will finish the dessert section so that I can work on the other items.

Now here is the entries for today (if I do a repeat, sorry!!!!)!

Not as much today, but I will be getting the rest of the recipes from this page tomorrow.  For those of you looking for where these are in the Top menu, they are under Desserts and Cake.  Some of them will reappear on the Pie category, (the cheesecakes) but I wanted them under the cupcakes to make it easier to find.  Under Cakes is the regular cakes, then Cupcakes and then Icing.

I am still working on the pages, once I am done with those, I will go back for the recipes that had posts describing how to make and add the instructions into the recipes with the pictures to help those making them for the first time.  Once I can be online with the other ladies doing the food blog, this may end up going faster.

Thanks for joining us and I will see you guys tomorrow!
